Funeral services for Pete Blankenship, 55, of Clive, who died Monday, February 11, 2008 at home of pancreatic cancer, will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 16 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Indianola. Burial with military rites will be in the I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Pete was born in Paul's Valley, Oklahoma and served in the United States Air Force during Vietnam. Following his return he started in the construction business. On February 2, 1991 he was united in marriage to Marilyn Walk of 17 years. Pete had worked for Weitz Co. for the past 12 years where he was a Senior Project Manager. He enjoyed golf, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, reading and spending time with his wife and daughter.
Pete was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Blankenship. He is survived by his wife Marilyn; daughter Abby Kay; mother, Marie Blankenship of Paul's Valley, OK; sisters, Marieta Hobbs of Augusta, GA, Cathy Brinley of Paul's Valley, OK, and Nancy Trent of Conroe, TX; brother, Carl Blankenship of Sunnyvale, CA. Visitation will be held 3 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 15 at Overton Funeral Home where the family will be present from 5 – 8:00 p.m. to greet friends. A Scripture Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or St. Thomas Aquinas Church.
