Turner
March 11, 1947 – October 18, 2024
Services for Patrica "Pat" Turner, 77, of Indianola, who passed away Friday, October 18, 2024 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, will be held 7 p.m., Monday, October 28, 2024 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola, Iowa. Visitation will be held Monday prior to services from 4 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 29, at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter.
Patricia Maude Turner was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa on March 11, 1947. Her parents were Bob and Velva Pavey. The family moved to Fairfield while Pat was a young girl.
After graduating from Fairfield High School in 1965, she attended Bethany Nazarene University (SNU) in Bethany, Oklahoma. There she met the love of her life, Danny W. Turner. They were united in marriage on December 28, 1968. After some time in Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, they moved back to Indianola where they raised two children, Kristi and Darin.
As the owner of Ailene's Beauty Shop, she formed many lasting friendships. Pat and Danny loved to travel. They enjoyed visiting several National Quartet Conventions, and numerous baseball and basketball games.
Pat was involved in many activities throughout her life. She enjoyed writing poetry and creating personalized, homemade cards with poems tailored for each recipient. She also wrote poems for church cookbooks and even authored a book.
For over 40 years, she was involved with teen Bible Quizzing. She was a coach, content judge, scorekeeper, and a quizmaster. She loved working with teens and teaching them God's word. Pat was a talented musician and played the piano for The Messengers, a local Southern Gospel Group. She took over for Danny after his passing. They played at all types of venues, including churches, festivals, and the Iowa State Fair. She also played the organ at church for several years and enjoyed playing duets with Danny.
Pat had a strong sense of civic duty and took great pride in her responsibilities as chairperson for the absentee board for elections at the Auditor's office in Warren County. She was the secretary for her church board, and secretary/treasurer for her homeowner's association. She was also involved with the food pantry in Des Moines.
Last but not least, she loved spending time with her grandkids. She could often be found beaming at baseball games, swim meets, cross country meets, choir concerts, and dance recitals.
Pat was a friend to all she met and will be greatly missed.
Pat is survived by her children, Kristi (Ken) Duffield, Darin (Robin) Turner; grandchildren, Jessica (Shannon) McNeil, Sam Duffield, Kylie Duffield, Carson Turner, Camron Turner, Caden Turner and Collen Turner; great-grandchildren, Mason McNeil and Ben McNeil; and many nieces, nephews and other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Danny; and parents, Robert "Bob" and Velva Pavey.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Pat, may be made to the Iowa District COTN with "Teen Quizzing" in the memo line.
