Patricia Anne Howell, 90, of Indianola, Iowa, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 14, 2026 at home. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., at the American Legion Post # 165, 105 West 1st Ave in Indianola. Inurnment will be held in the Indianola IOOF Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Patty was born on March 29, 1936, to Russell and Mildred Smith. She grew up in Mount Ayr, Iowa, and Lincoln, Nebraska. On April 7, 1951, she married the love of her life, Lloyd "Shorty" Howell and together they had five children; Vera, Rick, Janet, David and Penny. In 1968, the family moved to Indianola, Iowa, which became their long-time home.

Pat retired from CDS Global and worked various other jobs around Indianola; Maid Rite, Crouse Cafe, Indianola Schools, and Putney Auction Services. She was also an active member of the International Association of the Rebekah Assemblies, dedicating her time to community service and fellowship.

She looked forward to her regular coffee club gatherings and standing Friday hair appointment, attending church, and sitting down for a good card game with friends. She was an exceptional cook and baker, rarely missed an episode of Wheel of Fortune, and eagerly cheered on her favorite sports teams. She also had a special fondness for owls, filling her home with a beloved collection. Above all, Pat loved her family fiercely and was happiest when sharing stories about her husband, children, grandchildren, and extended family.

Patty is survived by her son, Ricky Gene Howell; grandchildren, Ryan (Megan) Gavin, Charity Shaver, Nicole (Dan) Craig, Kyle (Jauna) Howell; 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd “Shorty” Howell; children, Vera Howell, Janet Howell, David Howell, Penny Howell; siblings, James Stanley, Jack Stanley, and Bob Smith.
