Services for Patricia Ruth Hartzer, 87, who passed away Monday, November 19, 2018 at Prairie Vista Village in Altoona, IA, will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 23 at Sheridan Park United Methodist Church, 4100 East Sheridan Ave., Des Moines, IA 50317. Inurnment of cremains will be in the Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, Des Moines, IA. The family will greet friends one hour prior to services at the church.
Pat was a devoted wife, supportive mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved all the kids sports and school activities, attending as many as she was able.
Pat was an avid and competitive golfer and bowler. She was active in Women's Golf Associations at Grandview and Terrace Hill Golf Clubs. Pat and her husband Bob traveled all over Iowa taking part in mixed golf tournaments. Pat also took part in many Des Moines bowling leagues and at one point, Pat bowled in the Women's Classic League at Air Lanes with a 180 average. And yes, she liked to win!
Pat graduated from East High School in Des Moines in 1949. She married Robert (Bob) Hartzer and had two daughters, Debra and Barbara. Pat excelled as a seamstress and enjoyed a variety of arts and crafts.
She is survived by her daughters, Deb (Steve) Richardson and Barb (Lin Holliday) Hartzer; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Bob" Hartzer; parents, Ralph and Ethel Piper; and brother, Gerald Piper.
Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association or the Parkinson's Disease Association.
