NORMA JEAN VANDERPOOL Indianola Norma Jean (Blondie) Vanderpool was born September 6, 1925 to Marjorie Rogers Browning and John Ellis Browning. She died November 23, 2014 at the age of 89, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. She was married in 1941 to Nick Vanderpool, who died in 1984. She made her home on the farm for 49 years, raising four children, and creating many lasting memories for her family and friends. She loved raising chickens every spring, and was known to make some of the best fried chicken in town. An avid reader, she enjoyed her friends in book club, and was an active member in the Ackworth Garden Club for many years. She was always a Democrat.......Yellow Dog Democrat!!! Missing only one election in her life, she was delivering a baby (Anita). Thank goodness Harry Truman won without her vote!!! She cherished her longtime friend and companion, Ray Heisner. They enjoyed attending soup suppers, listening to music on the square, dancing, and attending the County and State Fair together every year. She was dearly loved by her children and grandchildren, who valued her wise advice and were blessed by her unconditional love. She leaves a lasting legacy to all who knew her. She is survived by children, Linda (Dick) Morris, Joe (Carolyn) Vanderpool, Nick Vanderpool III, and Anita (Jim) Petersen; grandchildren, Debbie Schuster, Dan Vanderpool, Dana (Paul) Braun, Cindy (Dr. Nick) deVries, Nicholas (Laura) Vanderpool, Gail Brecht, Anthony (Julia) Vanderpool, Rob (Darci) Morris, Brent (Cindy) Petersen, Josie (Troy) Jones, Leslie (Matt) Barrett; 37 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Eloise, daughter-in-law Connie, and grandson Luke Jones. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m., Saturday, November 29 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. A sharing time will be held at 11 a.m. Memorials may be given to Warren County Fair or Indianola Public Library.
