Norma D.Thorius, 86, of Indianola, Iowa died Sunday October 1, 2006 at the Mercy Hospice House in Johnston, Iowa. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday October 4, 2006 at Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Indianola where she was a member. The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the church.

Norma was born November 24, 1919, in Sutherland, Iowa to John and Tena Rickers. She was married to Donald J. Thorius on July 11, 1940 in Spencer, Iowa. Norma farmed with her husband Donald in northwest Iowa until the mid 1960's when they moved to the southwestern part of the United States where they worked in the motel, convenience store and truck stop businesses. Norma and her husband retired and moved to Indianola in 1991 to be near family. In recent years, Norma enjoyed playing cards with friends, working crossword puzzles and spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great grand children.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Donald, a sister Velma and a brother Ernest. She is survived by her sons Jerry and wife Maeleen of Albuquerque, NM and Jim and wife Julia of Carlisle, Ia. Five grand children, Lara (Andrew) Marsh, John Thorius, Jacob Thorius, Jessica (Kelly) Williams, and Jeremiah Thorius and two great grand children Alexandra and Rachel Marsh. Memorial gifts may be made to her church or to Mercy Hospice.
