Obituary

Norma Alexander, 98, resident of Norwalk 65 years, went home on February 7, 2021. She left this earth naturally and peacefully. Norma's life was one well-lived and she spoke of her finals days with a smile knowing the love of her life would be waiting for her when she arrived.

Daughter of Reverend Herbert and Hannah Wright, Norma was born on December 21, 1922 in New Brighton, Pennsylvania. Norma graduated from high school in Altus, Oklahoma and attended Sterling College in Kansas. She was proud to have lived during the era of women joining the workforce. She taught school, spent time in California handling clerical work for soldiers deploying for WWII, and worked at a gun powder manufacturing plant. Throughout life, Norma worked in various clerical positions and later retired from Massey Ferguson.

On May 20th, 1946 she married Paul Alexander in Tingley, Iowa. They lived in Des Moines, Iowa and Nashville while Paul attended school. They bought their home in Norwalk, Iowa and had five children. Gary, Robert, Steven, Shelley, and David. When raising children, she was involved in the PTA, The Norwalk Booster Club, and attended sports activities.

Norma was independent and strong. She loved unconditionally and nobody felt unwelcome in her home. In the earlier years, she sang in the choir. Together, she and Paul enjoyed dancing at Val Air Ballroom, gardening, canning, and traveling. She enjoyed reading, cooking, baking, and always loved watching sports (specifically, Kevin Durant).

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Alexander; son, Gary Alexander; parents, Herbert and Hannah Wright; brothers, Keith, Don, and Bert Wright.

She is survived by her children, Robert (Carla), Steve (Sarah), Shelley (Jack), and David (Joyce); daughter-in-law, Pat Alexander;  11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and "sister she never had" Luci Wright.

Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, February 12, 2021, in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Adel, IA.  Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, February 11 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola.  She and Paul will be laid to rest together.  To sign an online condolence visit our website at www.overtonfunerals.com.
