Nellye Metcalf, 97, died on Sunday, April 26, 2009 at Prime Towers Nursing and Rehabilitation in Des Moines, IA. Graveside Services will be 1 p.m., Thursday, April 30, at West Fork Township Cemetery in Climbing Hill. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 29 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola where family will greet callers.

Nellye was born August 31, 1911 at Whiting, IA to Lon Davis and Ellen Sundell Davis. She graduated from Sloan High School and Wayne State College and taught school in Iowa and Colorado for many years. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Norwalk Christian Church.

Survivors include a son, Gary and his wife, Kay Gesaman of Norwalk and a daughter, Jane Trieff of Fort Mohave, AZ; grandchildren, Gregory Gesaman and his wife, Brenda of Norwalk, Joel Gesaman and his wife, Lesley of Des Moines, and Sarah Trieff of Las Vegas, NV; great-grandchildren, Kara and Kaylen Gesaman of Norwalk and Samara Trieff of Las Vegas. Nellye was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, a sister, and her husbands, Melvin P. "John" Gesaman in 1946 and Austin Metcalf in 1996.

Nellye made many friends in the various places she lived in Iowa and Colorado and took great pleasure in maintaining contact with these persons as well as her extended family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Norwalk Christian Church.
