Neil was born October 21, 1936 near Liberty Center, Iowa to Howard and Flossie (Pennington) Heemstra, and was the youngest of 8 siblings.  He and Marilyn farmed their entire married life together, initially in the Liberty Center-Lacona area, then in the Motor-Milo community.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn (DeHoet); daughter, Marcie (Gary), granddaughter, Heidi (Jeff); son, Rodney (Berta), grandsons, Brian and Scott; sisters, Lois Lawyer and Ramona (Walt) Butler; sisters-in-law, Shirley (Wilbur) Chumbley, Eleanor Heemstra, Joyce Heemstra, and Edith Heemstra. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John, Orlan, Harold, and Merrill; and a sister, Marge (Kemp) Hadley.

Visitation will be from 5 – 7 p.m., Sunday, April 26 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present.  Memorials may be given to either Hospice of Central Iowa or Milo Christian Union Church. Online condolences may be sent at www.overtonfunerals.com.
