Nathan Michael Friedman passed away on Friday, July 10, 2026.
Born on October 28, 1987 to Tammy Eaton Friedman and William Friedman in Davenport, Iowa, he attended Indianola High School and graduated in 2006. His senior year he met Brooke Montgomery, the love of his life and soulmate. They have been together ever since.
Nate went onto college at Northwest Missouri State University for a year and then came back to Iowa to go to DMACC with Brooke. He graduated from DMACC in agriculture and went on to Iowa State to finish his BS degree in agriculture.
Nate and Brooke got married in September 2012 and soon moved to their dream home in the woods in Indianola. Nate loved being a dad to his kids Laney (9) and Zeke (4). They were the center of his world. Nate’s favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing and trapping. He also bonded over Pokémon and WWE with his daughter Laney. He loved to help and teach people about his hobbies. He was always there to answer people’s questions. Nate will be remembered for his kindness and willingness to help anyone. He’ll be missed by many. Nate was much like his grandpa Tom, once you got talking to him you became a friend.
Shortly after Zeke was born in 2022, he started having back troubles. In December 2023 his back pain became progressively worse. From late 2024 until October 2025, Nate was bedridden in extreme pain. He was able to get help and became mobile again until he passed. He was able to do all his passions again that he had missed in the years prior and was getting to do stuff with the kids he never got to do before. He got his smile back for such a brief time. He was still in so much pain until the day he passed away but he fought hard.
Nate shared his love of John Deere tractors with Zeke. He inherited his grandpa Tom’s antique tractor, which he and the kids enjoyed riding and doing work with. This year he got to take Laney out hunting for the first time and she fell in love with it. She got to see her daddy get a big buck. Nate also loved planes, he was able to go to Oshkosh to see the airshow with his uncle Mike and his cousin Thomas several times. This year he was able to take his cousin Jaime trapping for the first time. He was a great mentor to her and their friendship only became stronger.
Nate is survived by his best friend and love of his life Brooke and his much-loved children, Laney and Zeke; his mother, Tammy Eaton Friedman; in-laws, Kevin and Deb Montgomery; brother-in-law, Kiel Montgomery (Nichole); nephew, Karsten; and niece, Tenley. He also had many beloved cousins, aunts, uncles and extended family and friends.
Nate told Brooke for his funeral he hated to dress up and wanted everyone to come in a flannel or plaid shirt and jeans. Come celebrate a well lived but way too short life.
