IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Nancy L
Smith
April 14, 1954 – August 2, 2023
Nancy L. Smith was born April 14, 1954 on the farm in Union Township in Warren County to Dwain (Bud) and Alma Griswold Town. She was the third child of four siblings. She passed away August 2, 2023 in Des Moines, surrounded by friends and family.
The family moved to Milo when she was a young child and lived there until she married. She loved life and everyone she met. If she ever told you she loved you, she meant it.
Nancy attended school at Southeast Warren and graduated in 1972. She enjoyed working on the school annual and newspaper, doing much of the art work for both.
On many nights after coming home from a date with Keith, she would wake up her dad and then the two of them would go coon hunting, never bringing home any coons but a ton of stories and memories.
On November 24, 1972 she married the love of her life Keith Smith together they had three children, Christy, Chad, Cathy. Nancy enjoyed children, (that's an understatement) and to this end she became a babysitter, that way she could stay home and watch their own children. Her other joy was cooking and watching others enjoy the food she cooked, even doing some catering for a while.
Nancy supported Keith in all of his endeavors and became the best Pastor's wife a pastor could ask for, except she couldn't play the piano, and spent some 30 years doing what she did best, loving the people of the different churches they served.
She had a great time when she was able to travel with Keith to California, Jamaica, Belize, and even South Africa. She even liked it when Keith had to stay home and she could travel with her aunt to Florida and with a friend to New York. Not so much when camping at the State Fair, but was ready to go back until they sold the camper.
Nancy was preceded in death by her father and mother Dwain (Bud) and Alma Town; father and mother-in-law Ival and Geraldine Smith; brothers-in-law, Dale Phillips and Greg Downing; and a niece Amanda Roberts. Nancy is survived by her husband Keith Smith; her children, Christy and Clint Fitch, Chad and Nicole Smith and Cathy and Jody Miller; grandchildren, Colt Fitch, Hunter (Sarah) Fitch, Marshal (Sam) Smith, Maybelle Smith, Kollin (Brittany) Miller, Konner Miller and Kash Miller; a great-granddaughter Lorelai Rose Fitch; and siblings, Sherry Phillips, Joyce Phillips, and Howard (Lanita) Town; also many relatives and many friends.
Services will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 7, 2023 at Motor Friends Church, rural Milo, IA. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Sunday, August 6, 2023 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola.
