Morgan Alexander Shields passed away Thursday, August 3, 2023 in Des Moines.

Morgan Alexander Shields was known for his big smile and even bigger heart. With his easy-going, laid-back nature Morgan drew people into his world, and he enjoyed an extensive network of friends and self-chosen family with whom he worked, socialized and made countless memories. Even more than his friends, Morgan loved his family. When he became a father, his son Zion was the light of his life and brought him immense joy.  Being outdoors and enjoying nature was a big part of Morgan's life both as a child and an adult. Morgan's happy place was at Gray's Lake, where he would spend hours taking in nature, people watching and getting sun on his back. His personal struggles were real and as he got older and they became so great that he had the tattoo on his chest, "Never Surrender." That tattoo became more symbolic when he was going through life's ups and downs. True to form, he continued to live life on his terms while undergoing rehabilitation and spending as much time as possible with those he loved. Each time a new challenge hit him, he faced it again and again until, his passing.

Morgan leaves behind his son, Zion James Weeks; parents, Deana (Andrew) Asher and Ryan Weeks; siblings, Samantha (Brady) Johnson, Kayelee (Austin) Shepherd, Keaton Armstrong, and Carley Weeks; grandparents, Kathleen Miller, Michael Shields, Terry Mercer; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews along with many extended family members. He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Jerry Weeks.
