Born in Warren County, Iowa, Mona was a graduate of Indianola High School. She taught school for a few years in rural Warren County. In 1939 she was married to Bob Onstot at the Warren County Fair. At this time she worked as a waitress in the Des Moines area including 17 years at Babe's Restaurant. Her husband Bob died in 1970.

Mona was married to Rolland Lawyer in 1972. They resided many years in the Minnesota North Woods near Hackensack and later returned to Indianola. Rolland passed away in 1991.

In 1998 she was married to John Hastie. Living in Indianola, Mona was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church. She was a wonderful cook and well known for her breads and pies. She had volunteered many hours at her churches in Norwalk, Hackensack, and Eldon.

Survivng are her husband John of Indianola, her sister Marjorie Weidner of West Des Moines, her brother Glenn (Ellen) Fear of Tipton, Iowa; and 12 step-children; 28 step-grandchildren; 27 step great-grandchilren; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 4:30 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Overton Funeral Home. A rosary will be held at 5:30 p.m. followed by a scripture service at 6:30 p.m.

Memorials may be given to the Iowa Hospice or St. Thomas Aquinas Church.
