She attended Lacona Country School, then transferred and graduated from Liberty Center High School in a class of seven girls and two boys. It was a six mile walk, but sometimes Molly and her sister Donna could catch a ride with the teacher on the way to school. Molly loved playing softball, even though she had to use a right-handed glove instead of a left-handed glove.
After graduation, Molly and her best friend Mert moved to Indianola, where she worked as a salesperson at Harrison's Five and Dime Store. She later met Melvin (Babe) at a roller rink, and they married six weeks later on October 31st, 1947.
Babe and Molly traveled throughout the country while he worked his job laying pipeline, living in 40 states. In 1962, they moved from Oregon to Iowa with their four children, and eventually bought two farms in Marion County. In 1972, Molly then moved to Pleasantville, while she worked at 10X, and later at the Squire Shop in Indianola as a sales lady.
Molly loved to participate in activities, especially in shuffleboard contests while in Florida during the winter. She also loved dancing, bowling, golfing, playing cards, and watching her grandchildren play sports.
She's best known for her beautiful hand-made bedspread quilts that she enjoyed showing at craft shows and to family and friends. She also made tablecloths and other hand-made items, and selflessly gave them away to family and friends. Molly was an excellent cook, and NO ONE could find a better pie or home-made noodles than in her kitchen.
Molly is survived by her companion, Howard Butler of Waterloo, IA; children, Don (Val) Wimberly of Tok, AK, Janice (Dan) Jordan of Pleasantville, and Karen Hall-Hansaker of Waukee; daughter-in-law, Connie Wimberly of Indianola; eleven grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren; brothers, Guy (Joy) Graham of Des Moines, Duane Graham of Milo; sisters, Helen Schrader of Des Moines, Donna Eaton of Indianola, Karma (Gene) Thompson of Ashland City, TN; sisters-in-law, Betty Graham of Milo, and Martha Graham of Indianola. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Hazel Graham; husbands, Melvin (Babe) Wimberly and Charles Oakley; son, Gary Wimberly; brothers, Bill, John and Harry Jr. Graham; and two infant grandsons.
