Graveside inurnment of cremains for Miriam Bane will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 19, 2020 in the Pleasantville Cemetery.

Miriam Ann Bane was born February 12, 1936, at home in Pleasantville, Marion County, Iowa during a severe snow storm blizzard.  She was the daughter of Loren and Lois (Hardin) Bane.  The family lived in Pleasantville while Miriam's father, Loren, was Superintendent at the Pleasantville School District for 9 years; her mother, Lois, was a homemaker.

During World War II, Loren joined the United States Navy and served as a recruiter, mostly in Beatrice, Nebraska, south of Lincoln.

After Loren finished his military service, the family moved back to Indianola, Iowa where Loren built and operated the first Dairy Queen shop.  As a youth, Miriam worked at the Dairy Queen under its subsequent owners, her uncle and aunt, Dale Peter and Wanda Hardin.

Miriam attended schools in Pleasantville, Iowa, Nebraska, and graduated from Indianola, Iowa in 1954.  She entered Des Moines Commercial College, and upon completion, began a long career of working at Equitable of Iowa in Des Moines, making many lasting friendships. Miriam continued to live in her parent's home in Indianola. She never married and enjoyed traveling with her mother after her father passed away.

In her retirement years, she enjoyed coffee with her friends, eating at McDonalds and Burger King, and made trips to the casino.  Miriam passed away at home on May 2, 2020, at the age of 84 years.

In addition to her parents, Miriam was preceded in death by a 7 year-old brother, Richard Gene, in 1933; and her uncle and aunt, Dale Peter and Wanda Hardin.  There are no immediate family survivors, only close friends and a few younger cousins.  (Information provided by Joanne Bane McKay and June Garrett.)
