Mildred was born in Canova, South Dakota on December 12, 1916, the oldest child of Lawrence and Zella (King) Powers. The family moved to Iowa and Mildred attended school in Winterset, graduating in 1934.
After graduation she worked at Graham's Department Store in Winterset. During World War II, she worked for Pacific Overseas Air Technical Service Command in Alameda, California. Upon returning to Iowa, she worked at Equitable Life Insurance of Iowa for 34 years, retiring in 1980.
Mildred moved to Indianola in 1947. She was a member of Indianola Business and Professional Women and the Indianola First United Methodist Church.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Maurice and Robert. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and George Burns of Indianola; sisters-in-law, Marguerite Powers and Helen Powers, both of Winterset; 3 nieces; 5 nephews; 7 great-nieces; 10 great-nephews; 5 great great-nieces; 6 great great-nephews; other relatives and friends.
Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
