Memorial services for Mildred L. Garbe, 87, who went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 9, 2010 from complications of a long illness, will be held 2 p.m., Monday, June 14 at the Village Centre Lounge in Indianola.

Mildred was born at Fort Dodge, Iowa, attended Fort Dodge High School and continued her education at the Fort Dodge community college. After graduation from college she taught Home Economics at Churdan, Iowa.

Mildred later met Edwin Garbe whom she married in Fort Dodge. She finished her degree at Iowa State University. Soon after, they moved to the New York/Long Island area where she also taught.

Mildred was very family oriented and made a point to see all of her nieces and nephews as much as possible. After retirement she was involved in hospital and church volunteering and Arlington Count Service.

In 1995, Mildred and Ed came back to a retirement community in Iowa. Her husband, Edwin Garbe, preceded her in death along with her parents, John and Ethel Mix and sister and husband, Evelyn and Ted O'Connor. She is survived by three nephews and one niece.
