Services for Mildred Chittenden, 89, who passed away Sunday, October 28, 2018 in Des Moines, will be held 11 a.m. Friday, November 2, 2018 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with the interment at 11 a.m. Monday, November 5, 2018 in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at Van Meter, IA.

Millie was born November 18, 1928 in El Cajon, CA to George and Helen (Legge) Creelman. She grew up and attended school in San Diego, CA, graduating in 1946 from Point Loma High School. She took classes in office machines and worked in banks. In 1953, she met Eldon Chittenden, a Navy man and married him on November 18, 1954. During the marriage they spent time with the Navy in San Diego, Astoria, OR, Olathe, KS, Atlantic City, NJ, Adak, Alaska, New Port, RI, Long Beach, CA, and Birmingham, AL. In 1968 they came to Indianola, IA where she lived the remainder of her life.

She enjoyed crafts, bowling and traveling with her husband Eldon.

Survivors include her husband Eldon Chittenden.  She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Helen Creelman and siblings, Jean Driscoll, Donna Gann, Donald and Roy Creelman.

Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Overton Funeral Home with family present from 6 to 8 p.m.  Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society in her name.
