Michael Vesey, 73, of Indianola, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2023. Celebration of life services will be held 7 p.m., Thursday, July 27, at Overton Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m., prior to service at the funeral home.

Mike was larger than life and was loved by everyone who met him. And if you didn't, there was probably a reason. His famous quotes "Who has more fun than people" and "You can't drink all day if you don't start early" will live in infamy. His humor was one of a kind, along with his master guitar playing and melodious singing.

Mike comes from a long line of spirited Irish bricklayers who worked hard and played harder. His work ethic was legendary in the construction industry. He was a mentor to many generations that have left their mark not only in Iowa but across the country.

He was president of something very important but we don't remember what it was. Dave says it was Des Moines Construction Council so we're running with that. Additionally, Mike was honored with the prestigious Jim Ryan award while working at Ryan Companies which is given to someone who best exemplifies the stewardship qualities of the company. He also won the only election he never ran for and was appointed as Lincoln Township Trustee.

He could be difficult at times but there was absolutely nothing he couldn't do and absolutely nothing he wouldn't do for those he knew and loved. He had an uncharacteristic grit that made you want to have him on your team no matter what you were doing, especially if that team was beer drinking. Mike's love for his family and ability to live life to the fullest will be greatly missed.

Mike is survived by his best friend, Ozzy; wife, Jo; children, Fawn Shinn, Michael (Stephanie) Vesey, Staci (Charlie) Robuck, Traci (Ryan) Ellis,  Kristen (Aaron) Petty, Carrie Johnson; grandchildren, Jesse, Taylor, Ross, Whitney, Haley, Quinn, Shaelynn, Kirsten, Kaleb, Tanner, Kenzie, Bailee, Lexi, Jalaine, Elijah, Madi; 16 great-grandchildren; mother, Linda Vesey; siblings, Pat (Denny) Morgan, Linda (Karey) Samson, Mike (Heny) Schipper, Rich (Wendy) Schipper; and cavalcade of other nieces, nephews, family, friends and coworkers. He is preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Sr.; mother Sheila; brother, Kenneth Jr; and son-in-law, Ryan Johnson.
