A Memorial Funeral Mass for Michael Joseph Metz, 62, of Indianola, will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, June 1, 2024 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Indianola, with internment of cremains in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Mike was born to Marvin and Rosie Metz on November 4, 1961. He was the youngest of four brothers and had one younger sister. Mike graduated from Indianola High in 1980 then worked for America West Airline for several years. He retired from IMU in 2024 after 22 years in the Electric Department as an operator. Mike loved his family and friends! He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling. Mike loved going to the mountains in Colorado and to the beaches with his family. He was so excited to buy his boat and take people out tubing and fishing. Many are still recovering from his tubing adventures! Mike was an avid motorcyclist and loved his Harley. He spent many hours on his bike whether riding to Sturgis or at bike night. Mike was always willing and ready to help others when needed. He had many friends and liked spending time with each and every one of them. Mike will be missed by all who loved him.
Mike is survived by his parents, Marvin "Duffy" and Rose Metz; siblings, Gary (Betty) Metz, Dave (Michele) Metz, Edward (Cheryl) Metz and Brenda (Gary) Hollars; nieces and nephews, Andra Metz, Jessica (Adam) Westbrook, Victor Metz, Crystal Metz, Nicole Metz, Samantha (Steven) Canler, Conrad (Brittany) Metz, Austin Metz, Danielle (Colin) Clark, Cassie Hollars and Nathan Hollars.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, May 31, 2024 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Memorials, in memory of Mike, may be given to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church or Kavanagh House on 56th Street in Des Moines.
