MERL J. CURNES Indianola Services for Merl J. Curnes, 93, who passed away Monday, September 29, 2014, at Bright Kavanagh in Des Moines surrounded by his loved ones, will be held 10 a.m., Friday, October 3 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial following in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Merl was born January 4, 1921 to Earnest and Myra (Hall) Curnes in Liberty Center, Iowa. He married Phyllis Nicholson on February 16, 1946 and to this union a son Andy was born. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; son, Andy (Dianne) Curnes; grandchildren, Chad Curnes and Allison (Donny) Townsend; and great-grandchildren, Jacob and Jenna Curnes and Emma Townsend. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Mildred Benningfield. Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, October 2 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in his name.
