MELVIN D. WILSON Indianola Melvin Dale Wilson passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2013. Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 18 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Wednesday. Melvin was born in Warren County, Iowa, and graduated from Indianola High School in 1945. He lived on his family farm near Indianola, Iowa until he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served in occupied Japan during the years of 1946 and 1947. Following his military service, he married Margaret Irene Kirkpatrick on June 4, 1949. He attended Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, graduatingin 1950 with a B.S. in Biology. After teaching Biology in the Ringstead IA School District, he took a position as a chemist at Firestore Tire and Rubber Company in Des Moines, Iowa. He remained with Firestore until his retirement in 1985. He married Reva Blunt on May 15, 1993. Melvin enjoyed spending time with his family,and many outdoor activities, especially hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Wilson, his mother, Gertrude (Casady) Wilson, and his three brothers, James, Glen and Bill Wilson. He was also preceded in death by his wives, Margaret (Kirkpatrick) Wilson and Reva (Blunt) Wilson. Melvin is survived by his five children: Mickey (Terry) Wilson of Santa Rosa,CA; Steve Wilson of St. Charles, MO; David (Judy) Wilson of Urbandale, IA; Diane (Tony) Chamoun of Tampa, FL; Dena (Craig) Bechtle of Jacksonville, FL; and by 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grand children.
