Mabel Maxine Weinman, 90, of Indianola, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 in Indianola, Iowa. Maxine was born June 8, 1928, in Centerville, Iowa, to Howard Kile and Mabel (More) Smith.
She was a 1945 graduate of Moravia High School and continued her education at Simpson Collage, graduating in 1949. Maxine was united in marriage to James Weinman on June 26, 1949 in Moravia, IA. To this union three children, Joseph, James, and Jane were born.
Maxine was very active in the community volunteering at church, service clubs, National Balloon Museum, and Red Cross to name a few. Maxine became a member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church when she married Jim. She served the church in many roles including Elder, Sunday School teacher and as Moderator of Des Moines Presbytery. She enjoyed Sewing Club, Clio Club, and was a past president of Chapter BP, PEO. She enjoyed all things hot air balloons. She volunteered over 25 years as curator of the National Balloon Museum. The Red Cross was a passion of Maxine's, and she served on their board for several years.
Maxine was dedicated booster of her alma mater, Simpson College. Maxine and Jim received the first alumni award for Simpson Loyalty. They were also honored to be selected as "Names That Live" at Simpson. Maxine was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority where she remained active throughout the years.
Maxine loved gardening, traveling the world, doing puzzles, and playing Mexican train dominos. She collected hot air balloons, pansies, and pitchers. Maxine's greatest joys were entertaining friends, and having family gather around the dining table.
She is survived by her children, Joe (Karen) Weinman, James R. (Meredith) Weinman, Jane (Scott) Wood; grandchildren, Angela (Curtis) Braden, Scott (Monica) Weinman, Sarah (Joshua) Griffith, Andrew (Irene) Weinman, Stacia (Michael) Kleene, Katherine Wood, Jeffrey Wood, Samuel Weinman; great-grandchildren, Madeline and Macey Braden, Nora, Alice, Kepler Weinman, Mayli McConnell, Cora and Greysen Griffith, Callen, Bergen and Karigan Kleene; brother, H. Richard (Kathryn) Smith and many nieces and nephews. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Jim.Celebration of life services for Maxine will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Indianola. Visitation will be held 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, July 16, 2018 at Trinity United Presbyterian Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Presbyterian Church, Simpson College or the National Balloon Museum.
