Maxine Allen, 91, died Friday, September 26, 2008 at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. Sevices will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 29, at the First United Methodist Church in Indianola of which she was a member.  Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Maxine was born in Indianola and graduated from Spring Hill.  She went on to Simpson College and received her teaching degree.  She taught first grade and remedial reading for 25 years before retiring from Martensdale.  She enjoyed fishing, camping and playing bridge.

She was preceded in death by her husband Paul Allen in 2001 and her parents, Jake and Hattie Carpenter.

Maxine is survived by her daughters, Brenda (David) Launspach of Indianola and Dena (Jed) Harms of West Des Moines; sister, Grace Green-Dickerson of Des Moines; six grandchildren, Sarah (Tony) Launspach-Bockenstedt, Andrew (Melissa) Launspach, Dustin Lewellyn, Anna (Dave) Lewellyn Jordal, Christian (Andrea) Harms and Cara (Tim) Harms Rypka, six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. Sunday, September 28 at Overton Funeral Home 501 West Ashland Ave. Indianola, IA where family will be present from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.  Memorials may be made to her church.  On Line condolences may be sent at www.overtonfunerals.com.
