Maurine Becker September 4, 1926 to June 27, 2014 Maurine Clarabelle Becker was born on September 4, 1926 to Edward and Bernice Benton. She lived the first 18 years of her life in Oto, Iowa. She attended Wayne State College where she met her future husband, Clement Becker. Maurine taught elementary school in Hawarden, Iowa for 2 years. She then moved to Council Bluffs and taught 2 more years, while Clem finished college and prepared for dental school. In 1950, Maurine and Clem were married. After dental school, they moved from Omaha to Dugway, Utah with their 3 young children, where Clem served as an Army dentist for 2 years. They then moved to Alton, Iowa where Maurine did the bookkeeping for their dental business. They had a cabin on Lake Shetek in Currie, Minnesota, where Maurine loved to sit with a fishing line at the end of their dock. Clem and Maurine had 11 children. Maurine continued her teaching activities at home by challenging her children to play school together, and creating worksheets for them to use. She enjoyed music and loved hearing her children sing, play the piano, and perform in the school bands. She also loved to play Aggravation with grandchildren and sew quilts, making 100 in total. After 50 years in Alton, Clem and Maurine moved to Indianola, Iowa to be near 2 of their children and their families. Maurine is survived by her 11 children, 23 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her 3 sisters. The celebration of her life on June 30 is as she would wanta service filled with music provided by her children and grandchildren, and a eulogy delivered by her eldest child.
