Matthew "Matt" Karnatz, 54, of Prole, was taken from us too soon on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines.

Matt was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandpa, and a true friend to many. Known for his quick wit, generous heart, and deep love for the outdoors, he made an impression on everyone he met.

Matt lived a life of adventure. He loved to go fast whether it was on a drag bike, a snowmobile, or a boat. His love of old jon boats and outboard motors was what he teased Erin about most. He was an avid hunter who found joy in spring turkey season and duck hunting with family and the best of lifelong friends.

Becoming a grandpa brought Matt so much joy. From the moment his twin grandsons arrived, he was proud as could be, always ready with a smile, a story, or a picture to share.

Matt is survived by his wife, Erin; son, Michael (Emma) Karnatz; grandchildren, Cash and Hayes Karnatz; parents, Ronald and Lynn Karnatz; brother, Mark (Crystal) Karnatz; sister-in- law, Brenda (Joel) Frye; nieces, Rylie and Halie Karnatz; nephew, Gerhardt Frye; and many other family and friends.

He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, loyalty, and love—his stories and spirit will live on in everyone who was lucky enough to know him.

Visitation will be held 4-7 p.m. on Friday, August 15, 2025, at the Norwalk Methodist Church, 1100 Gordon Ave. Norwalk, Iowa 50211.

Celebration of Life will be held 12-6 p.m. on Sunday, August 17, 2025 at the Carper Vineyard and Winery, 4603 Dakota St. Norwalk, Iowa 50211.

Memorial contributions may be made in Matt's name to Ducks Unlimited, in lieu of flowers.
