MARY ANN SEAMAN SONGAYLLO Indianola Mary Ann Seaman Songayllo passed away peacefully on Friday, March 20, 2015 at Vintage Hills in Indianola. She was born in Pompeii, Michigan to Mabel (Henson) Seaman and Ovid D. Seaman on September 11, 1934. Mary Ann grew up in Chicago, where her mother was a piano teacher at the American Conservatory. Mary Ann had piano instruction there beginning at the age of three. In her teen-age years, she was also a student of the well known Chicago teacher, Howard Wells. Mary Ann graduated from Chicago's Fenger High School in 1951, and the same year entered Northwestern University as a music student, graduating in 1955 with a Bachelor of Music degree. There she met and married her husband of many years, Ray Songayllo of Indianola, where they have been residing since 1967. At the age of 44, Mary Ann began a career in nursing, earning her RN from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1981. She then began working at the Des Moines Methodist Hospital until retiring in 1997. Mary Ann was an avid reader and loved classical music, enjoyed jazz and modern folk styles. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Ray, her son, Paul Songayllo of Indianola, and her daughter, Ilona (Songayllo) Nunez and grandson Caden Nunez of Norwalk. A commemoration of family and close friends will be held in the near future to remember and honor our beloved Mary Ann.
