Services for Mary Louise (Baughman) Sandy, 84, who passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2013 in Des Moines, will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 15 at the First United Methodist Church in Indianola with burial following in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Mary was born November 20, 1928 near Russell, Iowa to Howard Ellsworth and Edna Mae (Feight) Baughman, the sixth of eleven children. She was united in marriage on October 26, 1952 to Carl Sandy. She spent her life as a homemaker, raising four children, Donald, Rosemary, Frank and Irene. She was devoted to her family raising them dutifully. She joined Carl as a follower and lover of Bluegrass music, traveling to many states, to many shows. She enjoyed camping as long as her health was good. Survivors include her husband, Carl; children, Don (Jan) Sandy, Rosemary (Dennis) Johnson and Irene (Tim Twohey) Ludwig; eight grandchildren, Jason (Angela) Edgington of Cedar Falls, Jason (Fiona)Sandy of Maxwell, Mark (Kelly) Johnson of Des Moines, Jeremy (Jennifer) Sandy of Indianola, Melissa (Jeff) Treece of Adel, Jeffrey (Kurt) Jay of Illinois, Jonathan Ludwig of Indianola, and Alexander Johnson of Des Moines; eight great-grandchildren; brothers Ralph (Norma) Baughman of Iowa City, Robert Baughman of Garrison, and John (Kathy) Baughman of Colorado; and sisters Ruth Wilson of Indianola, Edith Heemstra of Lacona, Marilyn (Sam) Porter of Texas and sister-in-law Norma Baughman of Indianola. She was preceded in death by her son Frank Sandy, sisters, Vera Cannon and Veda Sams, and brothers, Donald Baughman and Marvin Baughman. Visitation will be held 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, June 14 at the church where family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. to greet friends.
