Mary Geraldine "Jerry" Hayes, 93 passed away May 14, 2025 after an active, long and full life. She left us peacefully at home with her family nearby.
She was born to Frank and Pauline Weber, March 17, 1932 in Madison Missouri. She graduated from Richmond High on Friday May 19, 1950, then Sunday May 21, 1950 she married Raymond Keith Hayes they lived in Missouri before moving to Ackworth, Iowa. They farmed in Old Liberty as well, then West of Indianola before moving into the city of Indianola. They moved back to Ackworth to their final farm in 1995.
Jerry enjoyed gardening and farming in general, however she especially loved cutting wood. Square-dancing was a life style she shared with her husband. She also enjoyed traveling and belonged to the Agenda Club a neighborhood ladies club. Bowling was another activity she loved until her bowling bag grabbed her foot and threw her to the floor breaking her leg, she didn't like it so much after that.
Jerry had a variety of jobs first and foremost was wife, and mother. She farmed with her husband, worked for the state of Iowa at the DOT, then went to work at Maynard Implement in Indianola as bookkeeper before opening her own business with her friend Dorthy Hait called D&J Western Wear, she owned it for 50 years located first in Carlisle, then Indianola, before moving it to the farm in Ackworth.
She is preceded in death by her father Frank Weber, mother Pauline Blaker Weber, husband Raymond Keith Hayes, companion, Harlan Willis, 2 brothers Ben & Clifford and 2 sisters Ruth and Marcella.
She is survived by 3 children Gerald (Linda) Hayes, Randy (Kelly) Hayes, and Mary (Andy) Thomas; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren and many friends and one special friend Jen.
Services will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, May 22, 2025 at the Indianola Regular Baptist Church with burial following in the Hammondsburg Cemetery, rural Ackworth, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Memorials in memory of Jerry may be given to the Indianola Regular Baptist Church.
