Services for Marvin E. Nyswonger, 93, who passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at the Village Health Center in Indianola, will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, May 1 at the First United Methodist Church in Indianola with burial following in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Marvin was born May 21, 1916 to Tyler D. and Maude Barger Nyswonger. He was a lifelong resident of Warren County; he was a farmer and in 1981 retired after 30 years in the experimental department of John Deere Des Moines Works. He traveled extensively testing experimental machinery.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Eleanor Jean of 73 years; sons, Richard (Jane) Nyswonger of Mt. Pleasant and Raymond (Michelle Purdy) Nyswonger of Reno, NV. Also surviving is the special joy of his life, granddaughter, Karen (Greg) Blockhus; and three great grandchildren, Katherine, Natalie and Daniel Blockhus of Minnetonka, MN; his siblings, Wayne Oland Nyswonger of Des Moines, Merle "Doc" (Betty) Nyswonger and Anna Marie Ruble both of Indianola; brother-in-law, Jack (Earlene) McKee of Indianola; sister-in-law, Beth McKee of Altoona; sister-in-law, Jerry Nyswonger of TX; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lois Shipley and Audrey Meeks; brothers, Duane and Bill Nyswonger; and brother-in-law, Jerry McKee.
Visitation will be held 3 to 7 p.m., Friday, April 30 at the First United Methodist Church where family will be present to greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or the Good Shepherd Fund at the Village.
