Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Duffy is survived by his wife, Rose Metz; children, Gary (Betty) Metz, Dave (Michele) Metz, Edward (Cheryl) Metz and Brenda (Gary) Hollars; grandchildren, Andra Metz, Jessica (Adam) Westbrook, Victor Metz, Crystal Metz, Nicole Metz, Samantha (Steven) Canler, Conrad (Brittany) Metz, Austin Metz, Danielle (Colin) Clark, Cassie Hollars and Nathan Hollars, and 8 great-grandchildren that he adored; many nieces, nephews and other family and friends. There was never a dull moment around the house when we were all together! He was preceded in death by his parents, Barney and Loretta Metz; son, Michael; siblings, Donald Metz, Lester Metz, and Herbert Metz.

Marvin (Duffy) Metz was born to Barney and Loretta Metz on May 8, 1934 in Milo, Iowa. He had three brothers (Donald, Lester, and Herbert). He graduated from Milo High School in 1952. He was drafted into the Army at age 19 and served in the Korean War.  When he returned home, he married Rose Mary Ripperger in a double wedding with her brother, Wilfred and they were married for 67 years. Duffy was very proud of that! They moved to Indianola in 1957, where they helped establish the St. Thomas Catholic Church. He was the last surviving male member of the Founding Fathers of the first St. Thomas Catholic Church, where he had been a member of the Knights of Columbus for 67 years.

Duffy worked for Armstrong/Titan Tires for 38 years, until he retired. Then he worked for Medicap for 27 years delivering medications to nursing homes and residents here in town. When he wasn't working, Duffy spent his time going to many sports events supporting his kids and grandkids. He was an avid Cardinals Baseball fan and never missed watching them! He also liked to play cards, especially cribbage with the family. He was known to miscount the points in cribbage, but it always seemed to be in his favor. We had to keep an eye on him! He also spent many hours gardening and being outside. You could find him sitting on the deck or on his "prayer" bench most days.

Duffy will be missed by his family and friends. We should all find comfort from each other and in all the fond memories of Duffy!

Family Tree

A limb has fallen from the family tree

I hear a voice that whispers, 'Grieve not for me'

Remember the best times, the laughter, the songs

The good I lived while I was strong

Continue my heritage, I'm counting on you

Keep on smiling, the sun will shine through.

My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest

Remembering all…how I was truly blessed

Continue traditions, no matter how small

Go on with your lives, don't stare at the wall

I miss you all dearly so keep up your chin

Until that fine day we're together again.
