Services for Martha May Crook, 84, who died October 31, 2010 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines surrounded by her loved ones, will be 1:30 p.m., Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial following in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Indianola. Martha May Nicholson was born, September 28, 1926 to Blanche (Benge) Nicholson and Virgil Elias Nicholson in a little house on Highway 92 East and attended Indianola schools. During World War II, she worked at the Ordinance Plant in Ankeny. Following that she worked in dry cleaning, retail sales, and at Mary's Hallmark. She married Stephen Wayne Crook on November 6, 1945. She was a proud member of the Women's Auxiliary of the American Legion and enjoyed bowling, following high school sports, Little League baseball, watching the Chicago Cubs and the Minnesota Twins, and she loved to dance. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Mildred Miller; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Nicholson; and brother-in-law, Leonard Miller. Martha is survived by her son, Terry (Pam) Crook; daughter, Jennifer (Steven) Sorensen; grandchildren, Shawn Crook, Zachary Sorensen, Melisa (Matt) McCutchan, and Elizabeth (Kevin) Amoriello; great grandchildren, Micah McCutchan, Bailey Van Genderen and Foster McCutchan; brothers, Harvey Nicholson and Jerry (Winnie) Nicholson; and sisters, Phyllis (Merl) Curnes and Linda Miller. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, November 3 at Overton Funeral Home where family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Indianola Little League Baseball Incorporated or a charity of the donor's choice.
