MARNEY E. MARQUIS Indianola A Celebration of Life service for Marney Marquis, 83, who died Friday, April 27, 2012, in Weslaco, Texas, will be held 10:30 a.m., May 7th, 2012, at the First Assembly of God Church in Indianola. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. at the Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa. Marney Eugene Marquis was born March 2, 1929, to Gerney and Lowa Marquis in Woodburn, Iowa. He graduated from Woodburn High School in 1946 and served in the United States Navy. After returning home, he attended Simpson College and married the love of his life, Roberta Scadden, on March 29, 1953, in Woodburn. Marney started with the United States Postal Service in Omaha and was later transferred to Denver, Colorado. While in Colorado he went to work for Continental Airlines in the air freight division. He traveled all over the world to help develop the air cargo system that we have today. Marney retired in Los Angeles, California from Continental Airlines as the Director of Marketing and Future Planning. Marney and his wife settled in Indianola in 1990 and he gave his life to the Lord in 1991 at the First Assembly of God Church. He then opened the Goodnews Christian Bookstore and Kathryn's Tea Room. Marney was a devoted, loving husband, father and grandfather. Music was a passion in his life. His love of music included playing the saxophone and clarinet, as well as singing in the church choir. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Paul; and great-grandson, Daniel. Those left to cherish the memories are his wife of 59 years, Roberta; son, Kenneth (Liz) Marquis; daughter, Kathryn (Bill) Wright; six grandchildren, Laura, Kristina, Alan, Adrienne, Paul and Jacob; fourteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Gloria (Bud) Steele; nieces and nephews; and many Texas friends. Visitation will be held 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday, May 6 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Memorials may be made to the First Assembly of God Church, 1700 W. 2nd Ave., Indianola, IA 50125.
