MARK E. LOWERY Indianola Services for Mark E. Lowery, 76, who passed away Friday, March 6, 2015, will be held 7 p.m. Monday, March 9, 2015 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church where the family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. prior to services. Cremation will follow services. Mark Edward Lowery was born April 15, 1938 in Meyersdale, PA, the son of John and Rita (Jordan) Lowery and graduated from Meyersdale High School in 1956. He served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1959 stationed in Italy where he worked as a life guard on the beach part time and in the mail room on the post part time. Mark was a member of the United States Army soccer team and ski team. Mark moved to Iowa in 1960 and was Director of Data Information Systems at Diamond Laboratories in Des Moines, Distinctive Packaging in Des Moines, Herschel Corporation in Indianola and was a consultant in data processing for American Athletics in Jefferson prior to his retirement in 2003. Mark married Sandra Foran in 1974 and to this union they had a son and a daughter. Mark also had a son and a daughter from a previous marriage. In 1977, Mark and Sandi built a home south of Indianola where they raised their family until 1989 when they moved into town. Mark took great pride in building the first home and renovating the second home. Mark and Sandi enjoyed playing golf and participating in the social activities of the Country Club. For several years the family went to Colorado over spring break and enjoyed skiing. After retirement, Mark spent a lot of his time at Lake Rathbun fishing and making improvements to his lake home. He loved cooking and watching western movies. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a good friend to anyone who knew him. Those left to honor his life and cherish his memory include his wife, Sandi; children, Amy (Rich) Walton of Yuma, AZ, John (Nonna) Lowery of Des Moines and Becky (Joe) Evans of Palmdale, CA; and grandchildren, Blaine, Lindsey and Drew. He was preceded in death by his son, Rodney; parents, John and Rita Lowery; brothers, James, John and Roy; and a sister, Shirley Dively. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given in his name to Kiya Koda Humane Society in Indianola.
