Marjorie Ellen Sledge was born September 1, 1940 in Hamilton, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Florence Clark. She grew up and went to grade school in Hamilton and was a 1958 graduate of Bussey High School. After graduation, she got a job at a Christian book store in Des Moines and later worked at Employers Mutual Casualty Company for many years. She married Edgar De Louis Sledge on June 26, 1970 and to this union two children were born, Suzanne Elizabeth and Sara Elyn. Marjorie is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and infant daughter, Sara Elyn. She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne (Jeff) Glanville of Des Moines; brothers, Clifton (Margie) Godfrey of Urbandale, Thomas (Pat) Clark of Marceline, MO; sister, Virginia (Marv) Williams of Knoxville; and four grandchildren, Elyn, Jason, Mackenzie and J.J; grand dog, Dee. Marjorie was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She loved to crochet, read books and play cards. She especially loved her grandchildren's visits. She had many wonderful caring friends at Genesis Senior Living Center including her special friend, Nancy and all the Hospice caregivers. Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 18, 2013 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola, IA. Visitation will be held prior to services from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Inurnment of cremains will be held 2 p.m., Thursday in the Hamilton Cemetery, Hamilton, IA.
