Obituary

In loving memory of Marjorie Hirsch Rodgers who passed away Saturday, April 19, 2025 at The Village.

Marjorie was born May 23, 1928 to Carl H. and Carolyn Mae (Murrow) Hirsch.  Marjorie married Dean Rodgers on November 23, 1947.  They were married in her parents' home west of Indianola.  They were blessed with two children Craig and Leisa.  Marjorie graduated from Indianola High School and attended Simpson College.

She served as a Republican Co-Chairman 10 years for the Warren County Republicans.  She was appointed by Governor Terry Branstad to serve on the Podiatry Board.  Her love of Politics lived on in her hobby, collecting hundreds of Political Buttons and Memorabilia and also hundreds of Elephants in both pieces of jewelry and figurines.  She served as Secretary for her father, Carl Hirsch when he was State Representative.  She also made a bid for State Representative.

Her other hobbies were baking, participating in the Culinary Competition at the Iowa State Fair where she received many, many awards for her baking and she dearly loved the competition.  She compiled her own cookbook (Ribbons and Memories) Marjorie's Winning Recipes of the Iowa State Fair in her 80's.  She truly believed the heart of the home is in the kitchen.

Marjorie served on the Warren County Planning and Zoning Commission, was a Charter Member of the Indianola Lioness Club in 1986 were she held various offices and arranged interesting travel for the ladies group.  She was also a member of the Center Chapel Church.  She loved Christmas, making all her candies and giving them away, decorating her home and her family coming home.  She showered everyone with large quantities of gifts.

Marjorie loved her flowers.  She was blessed to have two loving and caring children, Craig and Leisa.

She was preceded in death by her husband Cecil "Dean" Rodgers; grandson Bryant K. Ely; parents, Carl and Carolyn Hirsch and her brother, Harlan Hirsch.  She is survived by her children, Craig (Theresa) Rodgers and Leisa (Bennett) Ely; and grandson, Taylor (Rinora) Ely.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2025 at Overton Funeral Home.  Visitation will be held prior to services from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.  Burial will follow in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Memorials in memory of Marjorie may be given to Center Chapel Church, Warren County Fair or the Warren County Historical Society.
