Obituary

Services for Marjorie Scheel Nelson, 92, who died Friday, June 26, 2009 at the Westview Care Center in Indianola, will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 1, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Indianola of which she was a member.  Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Marge was born  June 2, 1917 in Clermont, Ia. the daughter of Albert and Clara Scheel and graduated from Clermont High School in 1937.  She was a news correspondent for the Clermont Enterprise from 1937-1940 before working for Hart's Food Center in Cedar Falls. She was united in marriage to Harry A. Nelson at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls and the couple settled in Chicago, IL.  They moved from Chicago to Indianola on January 1, 1948.  In 1966 the Nelsons took up golf and bridge lessons, hobbies that continued throughout their lives.  Marge had been on the Board of Directors of the Kiya Koda Humane Society since its origination in the early 1970's.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry on January 1, 1998; and two brothers, William and Irvin Scheel.  Survivors include three children, Shirley White of New Bern, NC, Terry (Dawn) Nelson of Springfield, Mo., and Ronald Nelson of Indianola; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 30 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m.  Memorials may be given to Redeemer Lutheran Church or Kiya Koda Humane Society.  Online condolences may be sent at www.overtonfunerals.com.
