Obituary

Marjean Jaquelin Eaton was born on March 25, 1941 in Spencer, Iowa to Elmer and Joanna Steffen. Marjean was raised in Spencer Iowa with her 8 siblings: Willis (Zella Steffen), JoAnn (Bill Grimley), Dallas (Janet Steffen), Orlyn (Myra Steffen), Gary (Linda Steffen), Marvin (Mary Steffen), and Laddy a brother who had died in infancy.

Marjean graduated from Spencer High School in 1960. She then went on to beauty school in Des Moines, Iowa. While attending Beauty School, she met Tom Eaton, an acquaintance of a friend at school, and they wed on October 28, 1961. In 1971, they moved from Carlisle, Iowa to Saint Marys, Iowa, where they settled on a 40 acre farm with their children Tammy, Dennis, and Mike. Throughout the years, they raised a variety of crops and livestock including Marjean's favorite sheep. She became an expert in raising sheep and she was asked by many for help and advice with theirs. Marjean and her flock were also featured in the local paper for her skill at raising them. Throughout the years, she and Tom enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, usually accompanied by family and friends. They also were able to make the list to camp at the State Fair campgrounds, during the fair for several years. It was one of their favorite times of the year.

After Tom retired, they traveled around the United States, including driving to and throughout Alaska and wintering in Southern Texas for six months of the year for 15 years. She kept busy with her sheep, and many hobbies/interests including painting, gardening, shopping, garage selling, coffee club at Saint Marys, Red Hats, and spending time with grandkids and great grandkids.

On March 10, 2017 after 53 years of marriage, and a long battle with a degenerative muscle disease (IBM), Tom passed away. His mind was strong and sharp the whole time while Marjean was in terrific farm strong shape, but Dementia took her mind. Now they are reunited again in peace with whole minds, bodies, and souls in heaven. She will always be greatly missed and loved by all who knew her, especially her family and close friends.

Marjean is survived by her daughter, Tammy Friedman her son, Nathan (Brooke) Friedman and their children Elena and Ezekyel; son, Mike (Cheryl) Eaton and their sons, Thomas (Megan Miller) and Josh; son, Dennis (Lee) Eaton and their children Kelly & Jaime (Mike) Ashley, Tim Onstot, Chris (Samantha Crow-Bates) Onstot and children, Mia and Jackson; siblings, JoAnn Grimley, Dallas (Janet) Steffen and Marvin Steffen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Eaton; parents, Elmer and Johanna Steffen; siblings, Gary Steffen, Orlyn (& Myra) Steffen, Willis (& Zella) Steffen, Mary Steffen (Marvin's wife) and Laddy Steffen.

Services for Marjean Jacquelin Eaton, 83, of Prole, who passed away Saturday, August 17, 2024, will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola, with a private family burial in the St. Marys Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Overton Funeral Home.
