Celebration of Life Services for Marion I. Powell, 89, will be held 7 p.m., Monday, January 6, 2020 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola, IA. Marion passed away Thursday, January 2, 2020 at home. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., prior to services at the funeral home. Burial of cremains will take place at 11 a.m., Tuesday, January 7, 2020 in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter, IA.

Marion was born to Floyd and Hazel Powell on December 10, 1930 in Woodburn, IA. On December 21, 1952, Marion married Donna Coral Norton and they were blessed with two daughters, Debra Sue and Anita Jo.

Marion proudly served as a Corporal in the United Sates Army from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean War. Upon returning to the states, Marion farmed until 1960. He was then employed at Armstrong Tire from 1960 to 1972.  In 1972, Marion and Donna moved to Nevada, IA, where he owned a Western Auto business until 2000. From 2000 to 2007, he worked seasonally at Adventureland and then from 2008 to 2013 he worked at the Indianola Dollar General.

Marion is survived by his two daughters, Debra (Bill Fultz) Young of Indianola and Anita (Randy) Schoppe of Hardin, MT; grandsons, Corey (Jen) Piffer, Joey (Jessie) Young and Travis (Jill) Young, all of Indianola, Randen (Rochelle) Schoppe, Rhett (Tamika) Schoppe and Ryan (Danielle) Schoppe of Hardin, MT; granddaughter, Tracie (Jason) Heckinger of Indianola; 19 great-grandchildren; and sister, Margaret Murr. He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; parents; grandson, Toby Young; and siblings, Basil Powell and Donna Lou Pontier.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Indianola Area Senior Center or the Indianola First Baptist Church in his name.
