Marilyn "Kay"

August 30, 1936 – December 6, 2025
Funeral services for Marilyn "Kay" Worden, 89, of Indianola who passed away, Saturday, December 06, 2025 at Windsor Manor in Indianola, will be held 2 p.m., Friday, December 12, 2025 at Overton Funeral Home Indianola. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Indianola.
Marilyn "Kay" Darrah was born August 30, 1936, in Chariton to Glenn and Murine (Sullivan) Darrah. Kay was a graduate of Chariton High School where she was involved in many activities including Glee Club and Y-Teen and was Vice President of her senior class.
After high school, Kay moved to Des Moines and worked as a secretary at Central Life Insurance Company and later at the Health Department for the State of Iowa. While in Des Moines, she met Joe Worden of Leon, and they were married on July 20, 1956. To this union, two daughters were born – Julie Ann and Debra Lynn – and Kay fulfilled her dream of being a stay-at-home mom.
The family moved to Indianola in 1962 where Kay lived the rest of her life: 59 years in her home on 8th Street followed by four years at Windsor Manor.
Kay cherished life and had many interests. One priority was attending events and school activities of her daughters and later, grandchildren. A natural caregiver, Kay provided daycare for the Fitzsimmons family for many years after her children were grown. Other hobbies included walking, biking, gardening and spending time outdoors. Kay also loved cooking and baking, and she spent a lot of time reading in her later years. She and Joe even took up square dancing and enjoyed following sports, especially the Cyclones, Hawkeyes, Chiefs and 49ers.
Family was Kay's greatest love. She and her family enjoyed many vacations to Branson and Nashville to see country music shows. Colorado was another favorite destination. In later years, Joe and Kay enjoyed traveling with the Furchts, especially to Branson. Kay loved spending time and making memories with her children and grandchildren, playing games and cards, biking, playing tennis and visiting the local swimming pool and ice cream shop.
Kay is survived by her daughters, Julie (Steve) Bradshaw, and Deb (Lyle) Ziskovsky; grandchildren, Melissa (Jamel) Crawford, Scott (Elizabeth) Gates, April (Adam Bartelt) Ziskovsky, Jill (Tyler) Halcomb, and Kelli (Mark) Holan; great-grandchildren, Jace, Jacoby and Journey Crawford, Brooke Keller, Grayson Gates, Levi and Laney Halcomb, Silas and Emery Holan; and brother, Don "Butch" (Janice) Darrah. Kay is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Joe; parents, Glenn and Murine Darrah; brothers, Bob and Bill Darrah; and sister, Sally Howell.
Memorials may be made in Kay's memory to the family for a contribution at a later date.
