Marian was born in Indianola, graduated from Indianola High School and Simpson College and received her Masters from Drake University. She began teaching in Atlantic, Iowa and also taught in DeKalb County, Georgia and Florida. She also worked in banking and for the City of Riverdale, GA. She returned to Iowa in 2001 and moved to Westview in February of 2005. She was the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Chittenden.

Surviving are her brother, Jim (Stella) Mitchell of Fayetteville, GA; niece, Christy (Danny) Nolan of Dallas, GA; and a great niece and great nephew, cousins, Geraldine Hayward and Joyce Osborne of Indianola. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Ethel Mitchell.

Visitation will be held 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Overton Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to Simpson College.
