Edel Fromm Indianola Margaret Edel (Fish) Fromm passed away September 19, 2012 at Good Samaritan Society in Indianola, Iowa surrounded by family, friends and caretakers. On June 19, 1927 Edel was born to Art and Gertie (Fealy) Fish, and was the eldest of seven children (Helen, Rosie, Shirley, Wayne, Fred and Betty Jean), in Warroad, Minnesota, where she lived and graduated from High School. During WWII, she moved to Seattle to help build airplanes for Boeing. After the war, she moved back to Warroad, and married Bob Fromm. From this union they were blessed with four sons, Bob, Dick (Debbie), Jim (Rita) and Chuck (Karen); two grandsons; six granddaughters; and twelve great-grandchildren. They raised their sons in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and moved to Indianola in 1968, where they remained until 1981 where Edel worked at Northwestern Bell in the accounting department. Edel and Bob moved to Wichita Kansas and Edel transferred to Southwestern Bell, from which she retired in 1991. After retirement, she was eager to finally attend college, and enrolled in Wichita State, Simpson College, and finally Des Moines Area Community College and earned her associates degree. Edel also loved to drive herself to visit family all over the country and enjoyed annual family vacations in Bella Vista, Arkansas. She loved to cook, sew, volunteer, go hot air ballooning, and always took a photo of the family sitting down to eat celebratory meals. In 2007 Edel was diagnosed with dementia, and eventually entered the care of Good Samaritan in Indianola, where staff and family provided wonderful and compassionate care up to the moment of her passing. Her lifelong wish was to have her body donated to research, so her remains have been sent to the University of Iowa, and will hopefully be used to further research into treatment and cure of dementia. Her spirit however has been freed to travel again, and she is with her loved ones here and in heaven. A memorial service for Edel will be held in the chapel at Good Samaritan (708 South Jefferson, East Building) Sunday, September 30, 2012 from 4-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Hospice of Central Iowa, Knoxville, The Alzheimer's Association, or to The Good Samaritan Society of Indianola.
