Obituary

Services for Mamie G. Knouse, 94, who passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2016, will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 25 at the Milo Christian Union Church with burial following in the Goode's Chapel Cemetery.

Mamie was born October 7, 1921 to Oral and Hazel Sams. She graduated from Liberty Center High School in Liberty Center, Iowa in 1938. She married Franklin Wallace Knouse on June 26, 1940 and they enjoyed 35 years of married life together until Franklin passed away on May 2, 1975. Four children were born into Mamie and Franklin's life.

Mamie served with her husband ministering to Methodist churches in Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin from 1940 – 1953. Their last charge was at Seymour and Promise City, Iowa followed with three months at Capital Heights in Des Moines. Following this, Mamie was employed by Iowa Methodist Hospital working in the Nursery until she left to care for her husband. Following his death, she cared for her father and mother. During this time she served with the Southeast Warren Food Pantry culminating in an award for service in 2000. Mamie also enjoyed gardening, sewing and crafting.

Mamie was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin; parents, Oral and Hazel Sams; brothers, Earl, Eldon, Dale, and Pearl Sams; two sons, Gerald and David Knouse; son-in-law Ron Mallory.

She is survived by daughter, Dorothy Mallory of Knoxville, IA; son, Edwin (Judy) Knouse of Maumelle, AR; daughter-in-law, Connie Knouse of Milo; nine grandchildren and their spouses; three step grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, January 24 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola, where family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Warren County Home Health.
