Obituary

Funeral services for Mabel Olive Noland, 94, of Carlisle, IA, who died peacefully Monday, May 21, 2007 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines after a brief illness, will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2007 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Burial will follow in the Pen Center Cemetery, Earlham, IA.

Mabel was born February 27, 1913 to Raymond and Martha (DeVault) Smith, on a farm between Earlham and Winterset, IA. She was married to Bill (Wilbur Lloyd) Speer on November 6, 1932. They were married for 29 years and into this loving union one daughter, Martha Louise was born August 31, 1934. Both Bill (1962) and Martha (2006) preceded her in death. Her two brother's Willard and Dale Smith; her husbands, George King (1969), Howard Springer (1985), and Wilbur Frederick (1992) also preceded her in death. She cared for all of her husbands in their last days.

Her last loving marriage was to Gail L. Noland on December 13, 1997. They had many happy years together. She missed Gail dearly when he preceded her in death December 4, 2006. She was raised on a farm during the depression, where she learned the value of hard work and the importance of family. She lived a long and full life.

She is survived by her three grandchildren and their families, Pat (Lien) Cline, Mike (Becky) Cline, and Cathy (Charlie) Hommer; step-children, Mary Jane (Gordy) Rue, Lucinda Draper, Rosie (John) Efferding, Al (Kate) Noland, Birdie Noland and Harold Lunsford. She also had many great and great great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held 3 – 8 p.m., Thursday, May 24 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present to greet friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Quaker Heights Camp.
