Marilyn was born August 28, 1941, to Kenneth and Gretchen Miller, in Des Moines, Iowa. She was raised on a farm outside Runnells, along with brothers Bob and Tom.
Marilyn was married to James Hoffman in 1964. They raised three children on a farm outside Pleasantville. Marilyn was a homemaker, wife, and mother for many years, and worked as a bookkeeper / accountant with Oak Ridge Homes for 16 years.
Marilyn had lived in Indianola for many years and was active in the Indianola Church of Christ. Marilyn was more homebound in recent months and credits church elder Jim Blythe with bringing her communion on Sundays.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents Kenneth Frank Miller and Gretchen Maria Robinson Miller, and daughter in law, Tilly Van Egmond.
Marilyn is survived by her children: John (Amy) Hoffman of Pleasantville, Iowa; Daniel Hoffman of Salt Lake City, Utah; and Suzanne Hoffman of Pinson, Alabama; two grandsons: Zebulon Van Hoffman and Zendan Van Hoffman, both of Salt Lake City, Utah; two brothers: Robert (Fran) Miller of Pleasantville, Iowa, and Thomas (Joyce) Miller of Runnells, Iowa; one niece: Andrea (Kent) Strayer of Iowa City, Iowa; two nephews: Greg (Linda) Miller of Indianola, Iowa, and Matt (Marja) Miller of Pella, Iowa; grandnieces: Whitney (Ted) Lehigh, Ashley (Dillon) Brandt, Kelsey (Branden) Bloom, and Greta Miller; grandnephews: Brian Strayer, Mark Strayer, and Sam Miller; and several great grand nephews and nieces.
Marilyn passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2025, in Pella. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, October 17, 2025, at Overton Funeral Home with the visitation prior to service from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow services in the Lowman Cemetery, Runnells, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials in memory of Marilyn be given to Wesley Life Hospice or the Indianola Church of Christ.
