Mr. Garrison was born July 11, 1933 in Warren County to Silas Wilbur and Vera Mae (Wickett) Garrison. He married Harriett Norris September 12, 1953. Don had worked for John Deere for 30 years. He attended grade school at Big Rock Country School, New Virginia and graduated from Liberty Center High School. He served 5 years in the Untied States Navy, three years on a Destroyer Escort Ship.
Don loved fishing and sports, especially watching the Iowa Hawkeyes on TV and was an outstanding baseball and basketball player. He was a member of the Green Plain United Methodist Church, Indianola Masonic Lodge, American Legion Post 165 and Local # 450 in Des Moines.
Don is survived by his wife, Harriett; son, Greg (Pam) Garrison and four grandchildren, Hannah, Beckah, Micah and Sarah. Sisters Wilma (Elihu) Wheeler, Maurine Streeter, brother Willard (Joan) and twin brother Dale. He was proceeded in death by a son, Jim in 1989, his parents, brother, Wendell and Brother-in-law, Bob Streeter.
Visitation will be held 2:00 – 5:30 p.m., Sunday, November 6 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present to greet friends from 3:00 – 5:30 p.m. A Masonic service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Green Plain United Methodist Church.
