Lyle Edwin Cook was born in rural Dallas County, Iowa, to Harold and Hazel Aldrich Cook on December 17, 1924. The family lived in the Bear Creek neighborhood near Earlham where Lyle grew up. He married his high school sweetheart, Jeannie Anker, and later served in the Army in WWII spending overseas duty in Korea.
Lyle and Jeannie operated a grain and livestock farm and enjoyed being helpful and generous neighbors in their farming community. Upon his retirement, Lyle especially liked the warm climate in Weslaco, Texas and entertaining his grandchildren on their school breaks. He and Jeannie returned to Iowa in 2011. Lyle passed at The Village, Indianola, on February 24, 2013.
Lyle was a thoughtful, kind and caring person with a good sense of humor and easy smile. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Survivors include children; D. Dianne (Kenton) Richardson, Indianola and Philip L. Cook, New Brunswick, New Jersey; grandchildren, Darcey Jill Landuyt, Drew Richardson, Lyle P. Cook and Blair Thomas Cook; great-grandchildren, Shaffer Landuyt, Shelby Landuyt and Henry Richardson. Preceding Lyle in death were his parents; a young sister, Dorothy Jane; and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Cook.
Wilma Jean Anker was born near DeSoto, in rural Dallas County, Iowa, to Roy and Irene Souders Anker on July 9, 1925. The family moved to the Earlham area where she attended school and met and married Lyle E. Cook. They were blessed with 68 years of marriage.
Jeannie was a talented homemaker and a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She especially loved children, volunteering to help others and shopping. She was employed as a secretary with Dexfield Community Schools and later with Living History Farms, Urbandale. Lyle and Jeannie retired from farming in the Dexter/Redfield area and enjoyed many years in Weslaco, Texas before moving to Indianola, Iowa in 2011. Jeannie passed at Taylor House Hospice, Des Moines, on March 26, 2020.
Survivors include children; D. Dianne (Kenton) Richardson, Indianola and Philip L. Cook, New Brunswick, New Jersey; grandchildren, Darcey Jill Landuyt, Drew Richardson, Lyle P. Cook and Blair Thomas Cook; great-grandchildren, Shaffer Landuyt, Shelby Landuyt and Henry Richardson; and a brother, Charles Anker. Those preceding Jeannie in death are her parents; sisters, Opal Ganoe(Dwight), Maxine Jungman(Leo) and Thelma Hunt; brothers, Robert Anker(Mildred), Howard Anker(Eleanor), Earl Anker(Carolyn) and Merle Anker(Patricia); sister-in-law, Shirley Anker; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Cook; and husband, Lyle.
A private graveside service for the inurnment of the co-mingled cremains of Lyle and Jeannie Cook will be held at Bear Creek Cemetery, Bear Creek Road, Earlham, Iowa, on August 14, 2021.
