Lucy, the daughter of Elvis and Virginia Colson Johnson, was born in Pawnee City, NE. She was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Richard E. Freeman on March 25, 1955. They moved to a farm north of Indianola in 1956 of which 18 acres were planted in apples. She and her husband Richard operated Freeman's Apple Orchard. They lived on the farm for 40 years before retiring and moving to town in November of 1995. Lucy also worked as a cashier for Wal-Mart and at the Cumming Orchard before it closed.
Lucy enjoyed her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid reader and loved to travel. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Doris Beckman, Sandra McAdoo, an infant sister, Virginia; and a brother, Elvis Johnson.
She is survived by her loving husband, Richard; children, Bill (Cheri) Freeman, Dennis (Nancy) Freeman and Sharon (Ron) Bowlin all of Indianola, Richard (Ranae) Freeman and Susan (Jeff Stockbauer) Freeman of Des Moines; 20 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; brother, Wayne Johnson of Lincoln, NE; and sister, Mildred Beckman of Table Rock, NE.
Visitation will be held 3 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 23 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present from 6 – 8:00 p.m. to greet friends. Memorials may be designated to the family in her name.
