Obituary

Funeral services for Lowell Eldon Strahan, 83, who died Wednesday, November 8, 2006, will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 13, at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola, IA.  Burial with military rites will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Indianola.

Lowell, the son of Sam and Nora Strahan, of Prole, IA, was born on October 16, 1923. He graduated from Martensdale High School and served the United States Army in Europe during WWII. On August 18, 1946, he married Martha Helen Henry at Farmers Chapel near Indianola, IA. He was the administrator of Valley View Village in Des Moines, IA, and Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge, IA, before moving to Lenexa, KS, in 1975, where he served as administrator at Lakeview Village.

He was active in the Martensdale Community Church, First Baptist Church of Indianola, Union Park Baptist Church in Des Moines and the First Baptist Church of Shawnee.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Martha; his four children and their families, Karla Ruth (Strahan) Ewert of Omaha, NE, Paul Wendell and Cathy Strahan of Des Moines, IA, Reid Lowell and Cindy Strahan of Ankeny, IA, and Linda Jane (Strahan) and Gary Freyler of Olathe, KS;  his grandchildren; Justin and Melissa Strahan , Lisa and Bryce Poyer, Alissa and Josh DeGroote, Andrea and Paul Smith, Melissa and Aaron Kelly, Luke and Elizabeth Strahan, Laura Freyler, Matthew Freyler; and Adrienne Strahan; and great-grandchildren: William, Weston, and Samuel Strahan; Sabrina, Olivia, and Isabella DeGroote; Wesley, Landon, and Dawson Smith, and Jace Kelly.  He is also survived by his brother, Merwin Strahan of Indianola; sister, Maxine Cluck of Oakland, CA; and in-laws, Edwin and Ruth Henry, Merrill and Edith Henry and Dale and Lucille Henry all of Indianola and Harvey and Gloria Henry of Iowa City; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 pm, Sunday, November 12, 2006, at Overton Funeral home where family will be present to greet friends.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to World Vision, Samaritan's Purse or the First Baptist Church in Shawnee, KS.
