Celebration services for Lou Lathrum, 81, who passed away peacefully Monday, April 9, 2007 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, Iowa, will be held 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 12 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Lou was born in Indianola, Iowa on September 19, 1925 and moved to St. Charles, Iowa where he graduated from St. Charles Public School in 1938. On April 8, 1947, he married Betty Ackley. They made their home in Indianola with their children, Gary, Rick, LuAnn and Alesia. He served in the United State Navy during WWII from 1944 - 1946 and had played professional baseball in the Detroit Tigers organization in the late 1940's. Lou sold Buicks for 45 years, retiring in January 2007. His life was devoted to his family and his work. He loved his wife with whom he just celebrated 60 years of marriage on April 5. He was a proud father, grandfather and loved his beloved dog, Ginger. He lived life with a quiet passion and will be missed by many. He is survived by his wife, Betty; sons, Gary (Carol Tomb) Lathrum of Urbandale and Rick (Robin) Lathrum of Gilbert, AZ; daughters, LuAnn Joe) Klein of Bettendorf and Alesia (Brad Butler) Wright of Indianola; grandchildren, Ryan Lathrum of Las Vegas, NV, Jason Lathrum of Des Moines, Lindsay Lathrum of Gainesville, FL, Karly Klein of Ames, Bryce Wright of Indianola, Kelsey Klein of Ames, Matthew Lathrum, Brett Wright and Benjamin Wright all of Ankeny. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Alice Lathrum; sister, Alice Bea Latiano; and his in-laws, Zelmer and Zelma Ackley. Visitation will be held 5 - 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 12 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present to greet friends. Memorials may be given to the Indianola Little League.
